The numero uno thing I need to improve on... tough call.
I think the biggest thing I need to improve on so far is being consistent with my rewards. Rewards, we have been told, can be one of the biggest factors in your classroom management. Rewards, we have been told, are your best friend (along with writing assignments, detentions and paddles...). In Biology I this summer, we have used a ticket system as our rewards. Tickets and praise. Ask me if I've given out ONE ticket....
Not one.
Clearly, tickets will not be the reward I attempt to motivate my students with in the fall. Yet, tickets were the reward that was given in my summer school class, that I was a part of, that I taught in. And I did not hand out one. I'm worried that even if I do find a reward that I believe works for my students, I will not be able to consistently distribute that award... thus, making it meaningless and confusing for the students... therefore, disaster.
